For 20 years, inspiring musical artist Steve Green has dissolved the line between singer and audience, befriending listeners worldwide with compelling stories of faithfulness and family. From his early days with contemporary Christian pioneers Truth, Whiteheart, and the New Gaither Vocal Band to a solo discography now spanning 24 projects, 3 millions albums sold, and numerous #1 songs and Dove Awards, Steve Green simply aims to be a good steward of God’s provision.

One of Steve’s unique blessings is a heart for Spanish speaking cultures. Born in the United States but raised in Argentina by his church planting missionary parents until age 18, he still heeds the international ministry call to Latin America and beyond in addition to his busy homeland schedule.

“It’s my responsibility to use the gifts God has entrusted to me,” Green says. “If I am a communicator through music, and my mission is to plant seeds of revival, then I am to go where I am equipped to go.”

This solid root of personal heritage and calling have led to the new release of Steve Green’s sixth Spanish language album, Yo iré (“I will go”). Anchored by five translated selections from his current English project Woven in Time (popular praise hit “God of Wonders,” “Thread of Scarlet,” “Sacrifice of Praise,” “I Will Go,” and “Pleasures of the King”), it also features tracks from recent recordings Morning Light, The Faithful, and The Letter. Rounding out Yo iré is an exclusive new song, “El que habita” (He who dwells), a heart-stirring work inspired by Psalm 91. Produced by Phil Naish (Steven Curtis Chapman, Michael Card), the set stays true to Steve’s recent musical direction – passionate, upbeat, richly textured, and often as engulfing as a film score.

Furthermore, Green says many of these songs sound better in the Spanish language. Working with careful poet and translator Julio Vidal, the two discovered that certain lyrics flowed even more beautifully in the alternate tongue.

And now comes the most exciting part; sharing Yo iré with the Spanish audience. Steve, who still speaks the language fluently and does not need an onstage translator, has toured in almost every South American country and performed Spanish concerts in the U.S. from New Jersey to south Texas, and from Miami all the way up to Chicago. Green sparkles at the thought of spending time with his international friends.

“I love the people,” he says. “Latinos are the most lovable folks I’ve met. Very relationship oriented; they love demonstrably from the heart. The difference between English and Spanish concerts: English audiences are generally more reserved, Hispanics join in and drown me out! It’s a joy to minister among my Spanish friends.”

International audiences would surely say the same about Steve Green. Ever sensitive to the world’s volatile economic situation, the artist orchestrates his work through Steve Green Ministries, an organization that tours by request only and with considerable financial sponsorship to keep overseas concerts affordable. In the next two years, Steve has been invited and will go to China, Thailand, Greece, South Africa, Nicaragua, and Costa Rica.

Back home and off stage, Green is just as practical and endearing as his music and ministry. He puts the same heart into involvement with his local church community, caring for his aging parents, tending his tomato garden, playing golf with his son, and leisurely reading his favorite Puritan authors.

Most importantly, the Word of God disciplines Steve Green’s life and work. It’s a quality audiences have respected in him and aspired to since his career began, and it continues clearly with Yo iré. “There’s no magic trick to walking with the Lord,” he says. “It’s first of all a vital intimate relationship with Christ. Then, we must endeavor to abide in Him, drawing every breath from Him and relying on His life and power for every aspect of our lives. I read through the Bible every year, knowing that every day my heart needs to nourished, my mind renewed, and my thinking aligned to God’s truth.”

As he travels the globe this year sharing the message of Yo iré, Steve Green continues the pursuit of living out the implications of the gospel and communicating it to those who have never heard. Citing Psalm 92, he remains focused on following where God leads.

“I want to stay vibrant and alive,” he says, looking ahead. “The future is bright and filled with remarkable possibilities for serving our Lord.”
